Brigadier General Ferdinand Irizarry II


       Ferdinand Irizarry II was promoted to Brigadier General on Friday evening, July 15, at  the Airborne & Special Operations Museum,  Fayetteville, NC.  Lt. Gen. John F. Mulholland Jr., Commander of the U. S. Army Special Operations Command, was the promoting officer at the ceremony.  In attendance were members of the Fort Bragg Civil Affairs and Special Operations communities, officers and members of the Civil Affairs Association, and other friends from Irizarry’s many years of military service.   

    General Mulholland began the ceremony with a tribute to Brig. Gen. Irizarry’s years of service, with special mention of his years of  Civil Affairs service.  He noted that Irizarry is the first Army Active Component Civil Affairs officer promoted to Brigadier General.  Mulholland administered the Oath of Office to Irizarry as a part of the promotion ceremony.

    In comments following his promotion, Irizarry recognized his wife, Karen, his two children, and other members of his family present, giving them credit and thanks for supporting him during his years of service.  He asked his children to assist him in unfurling his general officer one star flag.

    As a part of the ceremony, Irizarry promoted a Civil Affairs AIT student at Fort Bragg from E1 to E2.  The student’s first salute following promotion was to the newly promoted brigadier general.  The Soldier received an Army commemorative silver dollar in return.

    In attendance at the ceremony were many Civil Affairs and Special Operations leaders, including Maj. Gen Bennet Sacolick, Commander of the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School; Maj. Gen. David Blackledge, Commander of the US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (USACAPOC); past commanders of USACAPOC, Maj. Gens. Buz Altshuler and David Morris; Brig. Gen. Hugh van Roosen, Commander of the 353 rd Civil Affairs Command; and Col. James Wolff, Commander of the 95 th Civil Affairs Brigade.   Also in attendance were many enlisted and NCO Soldiers from Fort Bragg.

    In attendance and representing the Civil Affairs Association were:  Dennis Cahill, Basil Catanzaro, Bob Feidler, John Geiger, Iggy Husar, Joe Kirlin, David Mitchell, Doug Nash, Frank Romano, and Dennis and Deloise Wilkie.

    Brig. Gen. Irizarry is the Deputy Commanding General of the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.
